PLACES BEGINNING WITH 'N'
Opened: Dec 16.
What: Smart and cosy Thai restaurant in High Street Loft.
The atmosphere at Nadaman is sublime – a deft balance of natural woods, beautiful, roughhewn granite and smooth blocks of ice create a hushed, natural minimalism that is both assuredly rustic and sharply contemporary. Walk past the silent fountain at the entrance, and you first pass a glassed-in sushi station, then the tempura cooks, and finally, in the high expanse of the dining room, the teppanyaki grill. A massive, marbeled hunk of aged rib-eye rests atop a block of ice, as uniformed cooks chop onions and fry the fragrant steak. The food at Nadaman, a chain of Japanese restaurants with a storied reputation that spans over a century in Japan, is almost overshadowed by the restaurant’s breathtaking design. Nadaman has gained a reputation for solid Japanese fare at their various Shangri-La locations around the globe, and the food here is no exception. At this Nadaman you can opt for sushi, fresh sashimi, crisp tempura or teppanyaki. Kaiseki, beautifully presented seasonal tasting menus, are also available at lunch and dinner. A delicious restaurant design coupled with good Japanese food makes Nadaman one of the best places in town for a power lunch or deal-clinching dinner. And it’s great for a date, too.
‘Nobody pampers your face and nails like we do!’ reads the sign. A bold slogan, but judging by the steady flow of clientele in this elegantly appointed salon, they must be doing a good job. Zhang Jiang Hi-Tech Park may be out in the sticks, but it’s a bustling business center worth visiting for Nail Story’s recently expanded set of offerings, which includes waxing, massages, personalized skin care treatments and facials using the products of luxury French brand Guinot.
Competing with the multitude of homey nail salons around town, Nail Story snuggle your feet into slippers on arrival and provide you with a menu of complimentary beverages served with their much loved homemade crackers (a sought-after recipe). Violet and mauve hues outfit the airy salon where you can sit at the bar for a quick nail job or settle into one of the plush couches, more privately enclosed in individual booths, and flick through piles of international glossies. We recommend going in for a luxurious hand or foot ‘facial’ (¥300-480), which includes a deep exfoliation and massage, accompanied by an Oriental-Secret Shoulder-Back massage (¥220, 45 mins) in one of the cozy treatment rooms up the stairs.
Crisp, clean, and cool. Nangka, the Malay word for jackfruit, is a month-old sandwich and pastry shop rousing curiosity in this corner of Luwan district. The minimalist decor, the soft flowing jazz, and the friendly staff all lend a calming café experience. The fruit-centric menu was inspired by owner and manager Yin Wong’s love for baking. Offering the standard café fare – a variety of inexpensive sandwiches, two types of salads, smoothies, coffees, and desserts – they tempt with more than a few pleasing treats. The recommended Malaysian-inspired curry chicken sandwich (¥12) comes filled with a coconut-curry blend of spicy potatoes, carrots, and green beans, spread modestly over halves of freshly baked herb bread.
Attached restaurant to this 24-hour Korean spa. Imagine if Xiao Nan Guo was Korean, and you're about there.
