Never mind the name: jasmine is only in your imagination in this sleek, nonchalant lounge bar. It’s more of a symbol of traditional Chinese elements that are abundantly used in its décor. Two lines of terracotta warriors impose a silent “huang ying guang lin” on awe-struck guests behind the heavy doors. Embraced by slender bamboo, the milky white beds next to the window are inviting to stretch out on, allowing for a half-covered view of the quiet street. The spiral stairs lead to a multi-functional second floor that consists of a jewelry shop, a display area for the qipaos designed by owner Mimi, an open lounge area and a private room. Its imitation antique details are well worth appreciating: the elegantly carved doors, the red silk lamps and the bronze chimes on the table. Yet the spirit is trendy, with a long list of affordable drinks, a light, healthy menu and soft jazz in the air. Happy Hour 6-8pm Mon-Thu. ¥15 standard drinks; Saturday Night Fever 2-for-1 on all drinks.
