At long last, we’ve tallied the answers from our first Readers’ Choice Survey. Herewith, we announce the winners.

It’s inevitable that many will shake their heads at some of the choices below. We must admit that some delighted and some disappointed us. We were happy to see that Shanghai’s Person of the Year is a well deserved nod to our native son and 100m hurdles World Champion Liu Xiang, and that Qipu Lu beat out the other shopping markets with its colorful diversity and true grassroots spirit. But what’s with the popularity of cheap and easy consumerism of IKEA and Starbucks. (Although we must admit to sharing a guilty love affair with H&M.) Is our city that interested in saving a minute and a buck that we look past the myriad shops that offer something a bit more different?
